Summers in Central Oregon are definitely some of the best, and whether you live here, or just visit annually, I think everyone can agree on that. With so much to do in the great outdoors, live concerts, farmer’s markets, and the amazing small towns all over, there’s no question why Central Oregon is a loved tourist destination, as well as a sought after place to live seasonally and year round. Here are some of our favorite summer events and activities, we know you will love as well.
Make a Day in Sunriver- Rent some bikes and spend the day biking around the paved trails all over Sunriver- don’t forget to stop for ice cream at Goody’s in The Village! You can then cool down in the pools at SHARC with the family, and enjoy dinner from the great selection of restaurants all over the small town. Check out the Go and Do page on our site to see some restaurants in Sunriver we love.
Munch & Music- In Drake Park in Bend, every Thursday evening from July 8th- August 12th starting at 5:30, come down and enjoy live music, local vendor booths, food carts set up, as well as beer, wine and cider from local breweries. There are activities for the kids, so everyone in the family will have a good time. You can see the live music schedule here.
Cascade Lakes Highway- Just 20 minutes outside of Bend, the Cascade Lakes Highway offers beautiful views, lakes and streams, hiking trails, day use areas, and more. You can find one spot you want to go to for the day, or just take the drive and stop where you want to get out of the car and check out.
Float the River- There are spots to float the Deschutes River in almost every Central Oregon town, including Bend, Redmond, Tumalo, Sunriver and beyond. The best thing to do is depending where you are staying, check online or ask the locals for their favorite spots. You can rent tubes or just go buy some floaties and enjoy the day on the water, just be sure to plan ahead where you will be getting in and getting out at, and either plan to have a car parked at both spots, or make the trek back up to the car at the starting point.
Food Carts- With more and more food cart lots popping up all over every year, it’s hard to keep up even if you live here, but every one you go to is sure to please everyone in the family. With a variety of food, drinks, local beers, wines and ciders, plus activities like: live music, play areas for kids, disc golf, corn hole, and more.
Shopping- Central Oregon is known for it’s locally owned shops and there are some in every town here in Central Oregon. You can stroll Downtown Redmond, Sisters, Bend or The Village at Sunriver, and grab lunch while you’re out and about. There’s also bigger spots like: The Old Mill District, Cascade Village Shopping Center, and The Bend Factory Outlet Stores in Bend where you will find more mainstream stores, with a small variety of smaller, local stores.
Bend Elks Baseball Games- A local favorite in the summer is spending evenings watch the Bend Elks play at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend, especially after a whole year off due to COVID. You can grab beer, peanuts, hot dogs, and enjoy the game in the stands with the family. Check out the schedule and get tickets here.
Live Music- The Les Schwab Amphitheater has recently released dates for upcoming concerts for summer and fall 2021 with some big name musicians and bands, and after taking a year off, everyone is ready for it! Check out their schedule here, and grab tickets while you can, they will be going fast.
Have a great summer here in Central Oregon!
