Central Oregon has some of the most beautiful spots in the fall, with the changing colors of the leaves, it can almost completely change the mood of a place. Whether you live here full time, or are just visiting, we highly recommend you get some family photos this time of year, so grab your favorite photographer, or Iphone, and get snapping! Here are our favorite photo spots.
Drake Park- There are many spots in this Bend park that make for great photos, with the mix of water, beautiful trees, and even the mountains in the background.
Smith Rock- Just past Terrebonne, Smith Rock is a very popular spot for photos for photographers from all over. It’s beautiful year round, but makes the most amazing backdrop for photos as it just screams Central Oregon.
Sunriver Resort- Sunriver has many beautiful spots, but the property of the resort has an incredible backdrop that makes for beautiful pictures.
Shevlin Park- Just west of Bend lies Shevlin Park, with many different areas on either side of the road that make for a beautiful spot for photos. There are areas for photos by their fishing pond, among the changing aspen trees, or one of many spots along the river.
Cascade Lakes- The Cascade Lakes Highway closes for the winter, and may be closing soon, but if you get there before closing, you have many beautiful lakes to chose from to get some amazing photos. Some lakes are: Sparks, Devils, Elk, and Cultus.
Sisters- Just outside the small town of Sisters, headed West, there is a large field that sits right below the mountains, and is sometimes frequented by large herds of elk, makes for a backdrop that doesn’t look real. These photos are especially beautiful when the mountains are dusted with snow.
McKenzie Pass- If you keep heading West past Sisters, the Scenic McKenzie Pass has many beautiful spots for photos, with it’s lush green scenery. At the peak elevation, is the observatory surrounded by lava rock, with the amazing mountain range in the backdrop. The pass closes for the winter, so make sure to check online before heading up.
DD Ranch Pumpkin Patch- Just past Terrebonne, and near Smith Rock, the pumpkin patch is one of the most popular spots for photos in the fall for Central Oregonians. You get the festive pumpkin patch, with Smith Rock in the background, plus you get to take home your perfect pumpkin, and grab some cider while you’re there. See their website for hours of operation, and to purchase tickets ahead of time.
Painted Hills- If you’re willing to make the drive, just outside of Mitchell, the Painted Hills are one of the most photographed spots in all of the Pacific Northwest, as it doesn’t look real, and photos almost don’t do justice to this amazing place. The hills are layered with beautiful colors that are just astounding.
