Family snow day ideas

The snow is here! If you’re looking for family friendly outdoor activities this weekend, here are some ideas in Central Oregon:

  1. Ski/ Snowboard/Tubing- Mt. Bachelor just outside Bend has Alpine and Nordic skiing, tubing, as well as snowshoe tours. They offer rentals for all of these activities. Hoodoo outside of Sisters offers skiing/snowboarding, as well as a tubing hill. They have rentals for these activities. An option for tubing in Sunriver is SHARC, which has three runs of varying steepness.
  2. Cross Country Skiing- Aside from Mt. Bachelor, there are many areas for cross country skiing around Central Oregon incuding: Virginia Meissner which is connected through a series of trails to the Swampy Lakes sno park. Wanoga sno park, which is a 3.5 km, groomed trail is on the way to Mt. Bachelor.
  3. Ice Skating- Inn at the Seventh Mtn. off Century Drive offers ice skating for just $7 a day, with a $5 rental. The Pavilion, located in Bend is also a great place to ice skate, they have a schedule that shows when open skate is available. Sunriver Ice Skating at the Village at Sunriver ice arena is a great option if you live, or are just staying in Sunriver.
  4. Sledding- Wanoga sno park has a big sledding hill for everyone in the family. Skyliner sno park on Skyliner Road offers sledding, as well as snowshoeing, and cross country skiing trails.
