This week’s featured home is 3 Augusta Lane in Sunriver. Home to Katharine Hepburn while filming Rooster Cogburn opposite of John Wayne in the summer of 1974, 3 Augusta Lane is truly a Sunriver Icon! This home was completely restored and remodeled in 2004, has been meticulously maintained over the years, and has never been a rental home. Flanked by the 11th and 12th fairways of The Meadows Golf Course, 3 Augusta Lane is ideally located in the south end of Sunriver near The Village, SHARC, and The Resort. This 3,915 (+/-) square foot home has 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, including an expansive master suite. Unique to this home is the legal apartment; this area with its own full kitchen, woodstove, and thermostat can be locked off as a one or two bedroom apartment. When locked at the top of the stairs it is a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment and when locked at the bottom of the stairs it becomes a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment. The expansive master suite in the main house has its own living area, with fireplace, office and reading areas, and covered balcony. This home has all the amenities for entertaining including an updated kitchen with expansive storage space, wet bar, and a subterranean wine cellar. 3 Augusta Lane has its own private swimming pool and hot tub behind the house that overlooks the fairways; this pool had new plaster, glass tile, and digital heater installed in 2014. All you need to start living like a Sunriver star is to move into 3 Augusta Lane.
The land on which The Sunriver Resort sits is full of history, just as 3 Augusta Lane is. Once the water that covered this land broke through its natural dam, it left behind the Great Meadow where the Resort is currently positioned. Native American tribes lived on this rich land and in the 1800s settlers, trappers, and explorers, including John Freemont and Kit Carson, came across much of the land along the Deschutes River. In 1943 the US Army developed the land into Camp Abbott and used it as a training ground during the Second World War. In 1965 the development of The Resort into what it is today began. John D. Gray, founder of Omark Industries, and Donald V. McCallum, a Portland attorney, developed plans with a set number of home sites to be built accompanied by a luxury resort. On June 28, 1968 the first site in the Sunriver Resort was sold. Sunriver Realty was also established this year. Just five years later, 3 Augusta Lane was built and so this home has grown right alongside of The Resort itself. (Courtesy of “Resort History”: Sunriver Resort)
