How to Keep New Year’s Resolutions

It’s 2020! New year, new me, right? But it’s easy to fall right back into our old routine unless we have a plan, or steps to take to really stick with our resolutions. Here are some helpful tips to help help the new you in 2020 stick around for a while.

Get Clear- Before doing anything, get very clear about what you want, or want to change this year, and going forward. Sometimes it helps to start small, and aim for goals that are achievable, then work your way up to bigger and better things. If you have no clue where to even start, start by just looking around, or going over your every day rituals; sometimes we get so caught in day-to-day stuff, it can be hard to even think clearly, let alone thinking about future goals you may have.

Write them out- Once you have an idea of your resolutions this year, write them down. Go over them in your head or out loud many times. Leave it out somewhere you can take a peek every so often to keep it fresh on the mind. Sometimes it helps to tell someone close to you, to help keep you accountable.

Create a group- Post it on your facebook to see if anyone else is down for a challenge as well. It can be a fun group thing with friends, and you can meet up once a month and talk about struggles and accomplishments to help encourage and push eachother. Even if you have different goals, it can help keep it fun and who doesn’t love having a reason to spend time with friends?

Research- Do research on the topic or topics you are trying to improve. Going online and reading blogs from real people can be such a great and inspiring way to learn and see other’s perspectives and views on the topics, and now days, there are blogs on practically everything! Read as much as possible until you have your own clear views on whatever it is, and go for it.

Don’t give up- We all want results fast, but these things take time, and can take much longer to achieve that originally thought. The biggest thing to keep in mind is just stick with it, stay consistent, and journal as you go, that way on days when you are really frustrated, you can look back and remember how optimistic you felt at other times. Sometimes just being reminded of that, can really force you to push on and persevere.

You’ve got this! Keep telling yourself this, focus on the end result, and you will get there! Put up sticky notes in your home or office to remind yourself this- you’ve got this!

Here’s to a wonderful 2020 filled with happiness, success, and pushing ourselves to be better.
