Most of us think of a sales people as singularly focused individuals who care less about the product than they do about the sale. These people are knowledgeable able to rattle off all sorts of details, but this approach has its limits. They may seem like experts, but only enough to hit the right talking points. But that does not make them one of the few.

To be One of the Few, as Malcolm Gladwell suggested in this book titled “Tipping Point” is to have a combination of characteristics that create a certain stickiness. To be One of the Few, you must have the right connections, the sort of contacts that every home buyer or home seller might need before, during and after the process, as well as the ability to know which connection is best for each client. To be One of the Few requires an expertise that would award them with the designation of a maven in your particular field. And you must also be memorable. In a good way.

Our Livability Project

In our Jones Group Livability Project, based on the effort recently begun in Bend, an effort to create a sustainable community as growth is projected to explode in the coming decades, we seek to tie not only our network of connections, our maven-like ability to understand the importance of each of these connections, but to make the whole home buying experience more pleasant because of it.

Gladwell suggests that stickiness should be “so memorable, in fact, that it can create change, that it can spur someone to action.” What does this mean for your real estate experience?
