Once a sleepy, timber town resting in the shadows of the Cascades, Bend has grown into a sophisticated mecca for outdoor and extreme sports enthusiasts, micro-brewing aficionados, and anyone who enjoys “living in the moment.”
The Deschutes River flows through the heart of this high desert gem. If you’re floating the river, there is a new state of the art whitewater facility that can be adjusted for different skill levels. Also located along the banks of the Deschutes lies the Les Schwab Amphitheater, host-to-many nationally recognized acts, festivals and gatherings. Further downstream, the Deschutes meanders through Drake Park and the Downtown area. Downtown is filled with great restaurants, pubs, micro-breweries, and shops. In the summer months, don’t miss the Farmers Market.
The world class mountain bike area around Phil’s Trail Complex is close and has something for everybody. Internationally-recognized as one of the best climbing areas in the world, Smith Rocks is only about 30 minutes to the north. Mount Bachelor is only about 20 miles away and offers activities in both summer and winter.
