Even though businesses are starting to open here in Central Oregon, it is still recommended to keep a safe distance from others to prevent a rise in COVID cases. Some state parks, restaurants, and lakes are open, so we will give you some fun ideas you can take the whole family to do, while social distancing from others and staying safe and healthy.
Find a River Spot- Bring the SPF, some snacks, and find a nice river spot to hang out for the day. You can tie a floatie to a rock or tree on the bank, and just enjoy the cool water. There are plenty of nice river spots with easy access in Sunriver, Bend, Tumalo, and Redmond, but just know the easier to get to, the more likely others will want to be in the area and relaxing as well.
Cascade Lakes Highway- It’s open! However, there is still quite a bit of snow still up there, so your favorite lake may not be accessible. This could be a fun drive though if you and the family have not done it. You can pack a lunch, and find a spot to pull off and hang out, just remember- it may still be chilly up there, so wear or pack extra clothes, just in case! Picnic- Pack a picnic and go have a picnic in your favorite park. While most play structures are still closed off, there are plenty of grassy spots you can sit and enjoy the sunny day.
Pine Nursery- In Bend, Pine Nursery is a great place for both you and the kids to go let out some energy. There are plenty of grassy fields for playing soccer, baseball, and a paved path around the whole complex which is great for bikes, roller blades, roller skates, walking and running. It is dog friendly, just keep on a leash at all times, and clean up after any messes.
Grab some Food- In Sunriver, many restaurants were offering take-out only for the last couple months, but many are opening up for dine-in, with limited seating at a time. Some places to grab some delicious food are: Cafe Sintra, Marcello’s Cucina Italiana, Sunriver Brewing, The Village Bar & Grill. Hours may be limited for any businesses and restaurants, so call ahead and check before.
In any public place, and around others, it’s still preferred that you wear a mask, so if possible, wear a face coverings, and still continue to wash hands frequently.
