Now that spring is almost here, it’s a good time to get some maintenance around the home taken care of, and things checked out to see if there’s any snow or water damage from the winter. Here’s a checklist we’ve put together for you to make it a little easier.

Check Roof- Check the roof and attic to see if there’s any broken beams, or water leaks. If you notice anything, call a roofer or contractor immediately so the spring rain doesn’t leak and cause even more damage.

Inspect Sidewalks/ Driveway- Look for cracks or holes that may have been caused by the freezing weather and snow.

Air Filters- Check and clean out air filters on any heaters, or fans used this winter. Check and clean out filters on air conditioners that will be used this summer.

Gutters- Gutters are often forgotten about, until the spring rain hits and you realize some snow damage has been done and they are not working properly. Clean them out and check for any cracks, bends or damage that can be fixed now.

Check Pipes/ Irrigation Systems- Make sure there are no cracks from the freezing temps. Sprinkler heads may have been damaged from the heavy snow and ice, and may need to be fixed, or replaced all together.

Check Doors and Windows- Look for any cracks, holes, or water damage. If any issue is not too bad, you may just be able to re-seal or re-caulk to prevent any air leaking. Check the trim around windows and doors as well, as a piece or two may need to be replaced from heavy ice.

Check Wood Trim- Take a walk around the home, make sure there are not any breaks or significant damage done to wood trim outside of home. Heavy icesicles can cause serious damage that is not always noticeable unless you’re really looking.

Paint- If your home, garage, or any other buildings on your property need to be painted, now is a good time to start calling around, as painters are starting to book fast for the upcoming spring season.

For any of these inspections or repairs that you cannot do yourself, or if you are unsure, call a professional to get a second set of eyes. It’s better not to waste your time and to have any repairs made correctly the first time around.

Happy Spring!
